"So here I am reading about another 'hate crime' towards another Sikh. The faith I belong to. Hate crimes towards the Sikh Community have been going strong since 9/11. I wanted to shine some light for those who aren't aware of the Fifth largest religion in THE WORLD.
The 500,000+ Sikhs who live in USA are often misidentified as terrorists or Muslims by fellow citizens who know little or nothing about the traditional faith. And no, it doesn't make it ANY better targeting ANY OTHER individual from any faith be Muslim or Christian. From what Ive read countless times, 60% of Americans are unaware.
We aren't terrorists! Lol. We're descendants of Warriors for sure and we rock that with pride. We go a good 500 years back, (I'm no mathematician). We have big hearts, we carry pride in our walk and talk and look to be at service in an instant to anyone. Our faith teaches us to treat all equal, live in honesty and the importance of good acts. Our Tenth Guru, left the message, to 'Recognize the human race as one'. Very 'terrorist' like, right?
You can recognise a Sikh by a Turban. Another being a steel bangle. Look out for one. Its pretty cool. I have about 4. Infact, there's TONS of cool things about being a Sikh. But above all, its the fact my religion allows us to appreciate and serve humanity. The service we provide to everyone and the fact our Gurdwaras (Sikh Temples) are open to ALL.
So, do yourself a favour, educate yourself, its free. I mean that with love, not as a threat. Stop bashing my community down, we're a cool bunch. In fact, stop bashing people full stop. I guarantee majority of the Sikhs hold the same amount of American values any other citizen does in the USA. Which is why I showcased America, inside of the Sikh man in this Illustration. Give them a break. This isn't directed at anyone, this is a message to simply allow that wonderful thing called 'knowledge' and 'understanding' free flow between us.
Stop bashing the Sikh community, thanks.
- A Sikh.
Thinking of all the fallen today on 9/11, and those who are subject to hate crimes, ...still. My heart goes to you." ™@inkquisitive
